Energy, Water and Resource Scarcity

Leonhardt van Efferink, December 2011

Introduction

The earthquake in Japan, the subsequent tsunami and the nuclear accident in Fukushima in March 2011 put nuclear energy back on top of the international agenda. Discussions about the construction or closing down of nuclear plants are a good example of a geopolitical process (i.e. how is power exercised over space?). The same holds true for how nuclear disasters are framed by politicians and media.

This page serves two purposes. First, it gives a quick overview of the countries that depend on nuclear plants for their energy production. Second, it shows the possibilities of the freely available 'Do It Yourself' map for teaching purposes and blogs.

You can download the "Do It Yourself Map" at: Backspace.com
