This world map shows the countries that have the largest share in the global production of four non-renewable energy resources (fossil fuels, uranium and coal).
World market prices of these natural resources do not only depend on demand and supply related factors (such as political instability), but also on perceptions of how much reserves are left to exploit.
Some consider non-renewable energy resources a key geopolitical factor, partially because they play an important (though different) role in the global warming debate. The high share of China in global coal production (46%) is a teling example in this regard.
Next to being informative about statistics that may be useful in geopolitical research, this page serves to show the possibilities of the freely available 'Do It Yourself' map for teaching purposes and writing blogs.
